Challenge Wanaka COVID Response

The Integrity Homes Challenge Wanaka Triathlon Festival will be using the new Government Traffic Light System and will be constantly checking for the latest Government updates and updating competitors accordingly. As it currently stands the event can go ahead at both Orange and Green Light status if vaccination certificates are used.

Challenge Wanaka Half, Aquabike, 3-9-3, Social Triathlon, Cross Tri and Cross Duathlon

Will the Challenge Wanaka Half, Aquabike, 3-9-3, Cross Tri, Cross Duathlon be able to go ahead?

As it currently stands the events can go ahead at both Orange and Green Light status if vaccination certificates are used.

Do I need to be vaccinated to take part in the Challenge Wanaka Triathlon Festival?

Following government guidelines, all competitors will be required to be double vaccinated and to have vaccination certificates in order for the event go ahead at both ‘Orange Light’ and ‘Green Light’ status.

All staff, sponsors, participants, suppliers and volunteers, within the fenced off race area, will also be required to have vaccination certificates.

What if I have already signed up but do not plan on getting vaccinated? 

If you have already entered but are not planning on getting double vaccinated, please get in touch by emailing [email protected].

When will I need to show my vaccination certificate?

Every competitor will be required to show their vaccination certificate, showing both vaccinations, at registration. If you are unable to show this, you will be unable to take part. We will not store vaccination passes – your information will be deleted.

Upon registration on the website athletes will also be asked “I am aware I will need to show a valid Vaccination Pass to attend this event”. If this is not ticked, registration will not be able to be completed.

What if the Wanaka and Otago region is in Red over the event week?

Unfortunately, the event cannot go ahead if we are in ‘Red Light’ status and the event would be cancelled for 2022. We will post clear updates in the lead up to the event as we get any new information.

Do I carry my ‘traffic light status’ with me?

No you do not carry your ‘traffic light status’ with you and therefore you can travel from a ‘Red Light’ area to an ‘Orange Light’ or ‘Green Light’ area to attend events.

What is your refund policy if the event is cancelled due to ‘Red Light’ status?

Are spectators able to come along?

Spectators are welcome and can view the events.

Spectators in secure and designated race areas, including the bar, registration area, transition, recovery tent, the finish line, the event office and communications area, VIP launch Cruise and VIP finish line area, will be required to show vaccination certificated on entry. These areas will be well signed, and passes will be asked for from spectators before entry will be allowed.

Spectators outside of these areas will not be required to show vaccination certificates.

Will the Secondary Schools Challenge still be going ahead?

As it currently stands the events can go ahead at both Orange and Green Light status if vaccination certificates are used.

All students over 12 years and 3 months must be vaccinated to compete. They will be asked for their vaccination certificates at registration.

Junior and Intermediate Challenge 

Will the Junior and Intermediate Challenge be going ahead?

As it currently stands the events can go ahead at both Orange and Green Light status.

My child is competing, am I am able to accompany them?

If you would like to enter the transition or finish area you must be double vaccinated and able to show your vaccination certificate on entry

Does my child need to be vaccinated?

People under the age of 12 years and 3 months are not eligible for the vaccine and therefore are not required to show proof of vaccination. They are allowed to enter the event and participate in the event. They will be treated as if they hold a valid vaccine pass.

Adaptive Challenge

Will the Adaptive Challenge be going ahead?

As it currently stands the events can go ahead at both Orange and Green Light status if vaccination certificates are used.

All athletes over 12 years and 3 months must be vaccinated to compete. They will be asked for their vaccination certificates at registration.

All athletes under the age of 12 years and 3 months are not eligible for the vaccine and therefore are not required to show proof of vaccination. They are allowed to enter the event and participate in the event. They will be treated as if they hold a valid vaccine pass.

I am a support person for an athlete, am I am able to accompany them?

If you would like to take part in the event and accompany an athlete you must be double vaccinated and able to show your vaccination certificate on entry.
