20 Apr Jessica Garrett – New Chair for the Trust!
We are super excited to introduce our new Chair of the Challenge Wanaka Sports Trust, Jessica Garrett. Jessica joined the Board in 2021 and comes with a wealth of experience in corporate governance. She has worked with Boards across different sectors and countries, as well as, managed Boards from their startup phase right through to publicly listed companies and government councils.
We also want to take this opportunity to say thank you very much to our outgoing Chair, Julie Aitken for all her hard work and dedication to the role. But we are delighted to say she will not be going far! She will be taking up the role of Deputy Chair to support Jessica and the Trust. So thank you Julie🙌
Jessica commented, “I’m excited for the Board, management team, and our volunteers to help provide an incredible festival of triathlon. Our foundations are strong and we are clear on our strategic direction of providing events that cater to all abilities and providing positive experiences for all.”
“After joining the Board in 2021, we were faced with making incredibly hard decisions due to the pandemic and the change to alert levels. But it is a testament to our hardworking team that they were able to organise a free virtual ride of the Integrity Homes Challenge Wanaka bike course and showcase the spectacular event, in collaboration with Challenge Family and Rouvy.
“We want to build on the success of our new events, the social triathlon, standalone swim event, and multi sport event, this year is shaping up to be really special.
“It’s a pleasure to work alongside trustees who have lived and breathed this festival and are wonderful anchors within the community, themselves promoting social connection and contributing to the physical and social wellbeing of our community.”
Alongside her work, Jessica has maintained a passion for coaching and competing in endurance sports and is now professionally focused on coaching endurance athletes with Team CP. As a qualified Triathlon coach, she specialise in triathlon coaching and feels very privileged to be living in Wanaka and to be strategically involved with the Challenge Wanaka Sports Trust.
