The Wanaka Medical Social Triathlon is back!

The incredibly fun and inclusive event, the Wanaka Medical Social Triathlon will be hosted for a second year on 13th February 2022. Wanaka Medical Centre and the Integrity Homes Challenge Wanaka team are thrilled to be hosting this event, which everyone can participate in and gives people the opportunity to get fit for an achievable goal.

“The Wanaka Medical Centre see this as a fantastic opportunity for people to get out there and enjoy some healthy exercise, as well as meet new people in their community,” said Dr Andrew McLeod, Integrity Homes Challenge Wanaka Trustee, local GP and talented Age Group Triathlete. “The purpose of the Challenge Wanaka Sports Trust is to give back to the people of Wānaka and we feel this event is very important activity to help some of our locals keep positive and motivated, especially in these uncertain times. Although the event is based around a triathlon, there was no competition and completing the course is a lot of fun and provides a great sense of accomplishment for many people.”

The social event consists of a 15 minute pool swim or 30 minutes Aquarobics or 30 minute Pilates at the Wanaka Recreation centre, followed by a Coffee or Tea. Then a non-competitive social ride from the Recreation Centre to Albert Town and along on a beautiful ride to the Watersports centre for a lunch kindly prepared by the Aspiring Rotary club, which is included in the entry fee. Then onto the final challenge a 2.5 km walk along the Waterfall Creek track and back to the finish, totalling 5km.

“The beauty of the Wanaka Medical Social Triathlon this year, was so many people got to try something new like Aquarobics and loved it,” said Bill Roxburgh, Integrity Homes Challenge Wanaka Race Director. “You know you have had a great event when everyone smiles their way around the course and the camaraderie was huge amongst the group. We would like to challenge everyone who came this year to bring a friend next year and let’s share this fun with even more of our Wānaka whānau.”

The event will be held on 13th February 2022 and open to over 23 year olds. People can ride any type of bike they would like, including e-bikes. Entry fees have been kept as low as possible to encourage participation, costing $25 which includes a Keep Cup, a reusable drink bottle, coffee or tea, lunch, pool entry and water and fruit at the finish of the event.
