30 Nov Challenge Wanaka wins People’s Choice Award
Challenge Wanaka Triathlon has taken out the People’s Choice award at the Ignite Wanaka Chamber of Commerce Awards 2017.
Challenge Wanaka Sports Trust Chairman, Tom Pryde, received the award on behalf of the thousands of athletes, volunteers and supporters who have made the triathlon a globally renowned event.
“This was a great result for Challenge Wanaka,” he said. “The perfect result and best award we could have won. It very graphically demonstrates the widespread community satisfaction and support we have. Every other winner in every category is a commercial business – we were the only not-for-profit charity – that makes the win doubly sweet and special.” He went on to thank everyone involved in the event which is now in its 12th year.
Challenge Wanaka 2018 will take place on 17 February and has introduced a number of new events to cater for an even broader cross-section of participants. This includes an Aquabike (swim/bike) with World Championship qualification and an event for secondary school students, too old to compete in Puzzling World Junior Challenge Wanaka. Challenge Wanaka Half is doubling as the New Zealand National Championships and is also a qualifying event for the World Championships
