12 Jul Challenge Wanaka makes shortlist of New Zealand Event Awards
Challenge Wanaka has been announced as a finalist in two categories of the prestigious New Zealand Event Awards. Challenge Wanaka 2016 is a finalist in the Best Major Event of the Year category and former race director, Victoria Murray-Orr is down to the final three in the Event Professional of the Year category.
NZAEP CEO, Vicki Watson said that entries for the awards had doubled in 2016 from 2015 and for Challenge Wanaka to achieve two finalist positions is already significant recognition of Challenge Wanaka’s success.
Challenge Wanaka race director, Bill Roxburgh, said it was a huge honour for the event to achieve such recognition at the awards.
“Making it this far in the New Zealand Event Awards is a reflection of everyone involved in the event who together have made it a bucket list race for athletes from all over the world and we’d like to say a huge thank you to the athletes, the volunteers, the sponsors and the Wanaka community. In 10 years, Challenge Wanaka has become an iconic event, not just in New Zealand but also throughout the triathlon world internationally. It’s also good to see Victoria’s contribution to the event recognised.”
The winners will be announced at the New Zealand Event Awards Dinner to he held at the Auckland Museum on 4 August.
