As part of its commitment to the local community, Challenge Wanaka has announced its support for the Te Kakano Aotearoa Trust as one of the event’s official charities.
Te Kakano (The Seed in Maori) is a charitable trust that has been operating in Wanaka for nine years. For seven of those the group has grown plants from locally sourced seed and replanted in and around the waterways in the Upper Clutha.
The Challenge Wanaka run course is about to get more plantings in a new partnership with Challenge Wanaka. Donations can be made on entry to the event and $25 from each corporate team entry will go directly into the revegetation project. The site on the run course is at Penrith where over the next few years, local working bees will be run to help tame the weeds and plant natives.
Opportunities will be available for anyone to contribute by purchasing a plant at the athlete village. There will be an organised planting session after the event, for those that wish to contribute in a hands on way.
